Natalie Portman talks ‘Thor 2,’ working with Kat Dennings

On shooting “Thor” The Dark World” in London …

“It was so great to shoot in these, like, legendary places, you Greenwich for example, and then to see it completely destroyed is so crazy. In shooting, they just had columns knocked down and it was all built just for the film but that’s sort of the fun of movie making, you know, you can tear down monuments and not actually do any damage in real life.”

On slapping Chris Hemsworth and working with Kat Dennings …

“It was definitely cathartic on behalf of a lot of my girlfriends and my past experiences to you know, give a guy his due when he didn’t show up when he said he was going to.”

“Kat is really just a gem. She is one of those special people and she’s so funny. It was really, really fun to get to work with her.”

On realness and vulnerability of superhero films …

“I think that’s what these movies really excel at, is that they have this escapism and the fantasy and this dream world that we can imagine. But at the same time it has the humor and the elements we can relate to, like the guy who doesn’t call back or meeting a boyfriend’s parents for the first time, even though you’re on some magical planet.”

Natalie Portman interview for Thor: ‘A woman kicking ass isn’t feminist. That’s macho’

Thor’s female lead, Natalie Portman, became Hollywood’s most bankable star after winning an Oscar for Black Swan. She talks nerves, motherhood and her Jewish faith

Natalie Portman is raving about working in Britain. “It’s amazing to see how robust the British film industry is,” says the actress, who recently spent several months in Surrey making her latest film, Thor: The Dark World.
“I think I’ve shot in England more than anywhere else in the world, between doing Star Wars, Closer, V for Vendetta, The Other Boleyn Girl and Your Highness. For Thor I stayed in Ascot, which was really beautiful.”
Now 32, Portman has been acting professionally since she was 11 and is accustomed to working with cinema’s brightest and best: George Lucas in the Star Wars prequels, Woody Allen in Everyone Says I Love You, Mike Nichols in Closer.
In 2011 she won the best actress Oscar for her complex portrayal of the deeply disturbed ballerina in Black Swan, and Forbes magazine recently named her the film industry’s “most bankable star”. Studio executives and her PR team treat her like royalty.

Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings on ‘Thor 2′: ‘Thor’s been a jerk!’

Although Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World offers a more expansive view of the world of Asgard, the role of scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and her intern Darcy (Kat Dennings) is expanded in turn, with the pair now having relocated to London.

Digital Spy caught up with Portman and Dennings earlier this week to discuss their Bechdel Test-passing relationship on-screen.

“All the [Marvel] films, and specifically Thor, have really strong female characters who have all their own stuff going on, their own spheres, their own jobs and interests,” Dennings mused.

Portman went on to speak about the new experience of working with Anthony Hopkins, with whom she didn’t share scenes in 2011′s Thor.
